Empowered Healing is a practical guide to empowered personal responsibility in healing and creating quality of life while experiencing cancer. It is primarily designed to help patients, especially those who are married, but it also provides caregivers with new and effective tools for patient support and for their own well-being. Caregivers is a broad term that includes family members or hired personnel. The book may also be helpful for those concerned about a cancer patient, even if they are not involved in direct patient care, such as medical personnel and friends.

Globally, according to the World Health Organization, cancer kills millions of people each year. And the American Cancer Society says Americans face a 30-50 percent chance of developing cancer in their lifetime. Even for those who do not develop cancer, they still interact with family members or friends who are struggling to respond to this diagnosis. This is a disease that touches most people’s lives.
Most cancer patients search for an often-elusive cure or miracle treatment. Some choose to simply let the disease progress. Many choose multiple treatment options that are challenging in their side effects. However, whatever the type of cancer and whatever treatment choices a patient makes, maintaining empowered personal responsibility in healing, coping, and in creating optimum quality of life is vital.
Making excellent choices and establishing goals for maintaining quality of life is a team exploration with a patient, caregiver/family, and medical staff. Empowered Healing guides patients and their loved ones through a systematic fact-based, spirit-guided approach. This approach can lengthen cancer patient’s lives and also help them increase the quality of the time they have, no matter how long it is.
This approach to cancer grew out of the authors’ own experiences with Craig Farnsworth’s cancer diagnosis and his wife’s caregiving (Susanne M. Alexander). Susanne is an experienced writer and journalist. Craig knew from the moment of his tumor diagnosis that his approach was going to be different from the way most people would respond. He was then further inspired by Dr. Bernie Siegel’s description of being an exceptional cancer patient in his book Love, Medicine, and Miracles. Susanne also did her best to be an exceptional caregiver. As a result, Craig lived far longer than expected with excellent quality of life throughout. This book unfolded weeks before Craig’s passing under hospice care.
